Choosing well

What to look for in recurring billing

Recurring revenue is only as good as the machinery underneath it. Three things decide whether a billing setup earns its keep, and they are worth checking anywhere, including here.

Check your approval odds

How cards are stored

Storing card numbers yourself is a liability. Ours are tokenised, so the card becomes a secure reference that charges on schedule while the real number never touches your systems, keeping your PCI scope minimal.

How much control you have

Real businesses need to pause a member, change a date or add a note. Our schedules are fully editable, with start dates, frequency, payment counts and the option to suspend or resume any arrangement in a couple of clicks.

What the customer experiences

Surprise charges create disputes. Ours come with customisable notifications for the first and every following payment, so customers always know what is coming and chargebacks stay low.

The integration

Every flavour of repeat revenue, one system

Weekly, monthly or your own interval, fixed runs or open ended, fully automated or charged manually when you choose. The schedule fits the business, not the other way round.

Automated schedules

Set the frequency, start date and how many payments to take, then let it run. A twelve month instalment plan or an open ended membership takes the same two minutes to set up.

Tokenised card storage

The card is stored as a secure token from the very first payment, whether that payment came through your website, a payment link or the virtual terminal.

Edit, pause and resume

Change amounts, move dates, suspend a struggling customer or resume them later, with comments on every change so your records explain themselves.

Customers kept informed

Personalised notifications go out for the first payment and every one after, which keeps customers comfortable and disputes rare.

Start from anywhere

Begin an arrangement from your website checkout, a payment link sent by text, or a card taken over the phone in the virtual terminal. The schedule runs the same way regardless.

Every payment in view

Upcoming, taken and failed payments all sit in one dashboard, so you can see the health of your recurring revenue at a glance and act before small issues grow.

What our merchants say

Fair. So here is what UK merchants say after switching to eCom Pay, in their own words.

★★★★★

No hidden fees, best so far

It was such a pleasure working with eCom Pay for my company, very straightforward to set up and the team were so helpful. No hidden fees, cost efficient, and from using other platforms before I can say this has been the best so far.

Once you are live

Life after approval, in plain terms

The application is the start, not the product. This is what running your payments with eCom Pay actually looks like, week to week.

01

Your personal account manager

Available 24/7 by phone, WhatsApp or email. Schedule questions, growth plans and rate reviews all go through one person who knows your account.

02

Failed payments handled sensibly

Cards expire and balances dip. Failed collections are visible immediately and arrangements can be retried, edited or paused rather than silently dying.

03

Disputes kept rare

Clear notifications before every charge mean customers are never surprised, and when a dispute does land you get evidence guidance and merchant-side support through it.

04

Grows into the full account

Recurring billing shares its account with the gateway, Pay by Link, the virtual terminal and card machines. One account, one settlement, switch more on as you grow.

FAQs

Recurring payments, straight answers

How do recurring card payments work?

The customer pays once and their card is stored as a secure token, then the schedule charges that token automatically at the frequency you set, weekly, monthly or a custom interval, for a fixed number of payments or indefinitely. Each collection settles to you the next working day.

What is the difference between recurring card payments and Direct Debit?

Recurring card payments charge a stored card and clear quickly with next working day settlement, while Direct Debit pulls from a bank account on a slower cycle. Card billing suits subscriptions, memberships and instalments where speed and flexibility matter, and customers can pay by card, which most prefer.

Can I take payment in instalments?

Yes. Set the amount, the frequency and the number of payments, for example twelve monthly collections, and the plan runs itself and stops automatically when complete, with the customer notified before each charge.

Is storing customer cards for recurring payments safe?

The card is tokenised, meaning your systems only ever hold a secure reference while the real card number stays inside the payment platform. That keeps your PCI scope minimal and means a breach of your systems cannot expose card numbers.

Can customers update their card without losing the subscription?

Yes. A new card can be tokenised onto the existing arrangement, so the schedule, history and notifications carry on unbroken and the customer never has to start again.

Can I pause or change a recurring payment?

Yes, any arrangement can be edited or suspended in a couple of clicks, with the amount, date and frequency all changeable and comments recorded so your team always knows why. Resuming later is just as quick.

Do recurring payments work with WooCommerce and Shopify?

Yes. Tokenised billing powers subscription products on both platforms through our gateways, and arrangements can equally start from a payment link or the virtual terminal for businesses without a website checkout.

What does recurring billing cost in the UK?

There is no setup fee to apply, and transaction rates are agreed against your actual turnover rather than a flat tariff, with the recurring tools included as part of your eCom Pay account rather than bolted on at extra cost.
